Contemporary Artist + Lifestyle Editor + Art Advocate + Digital Diva + Champagne Snob
As a recovering digital and mobile strategy management consultant, I have over 20 years experience in entrepreneurial environments providing business strategy, customer engagement leadership, and digital/emerging technologies/mobile management. As of September 2013, I left “Corporate America” to fulfill my dream of combining my art with my digital expertise as a commissionable painter, lifestyle editor, culture curator, and arts advocate in Frisco, Texas.
Women. Beauty. Fashion… What it means to have feminine allure. My paintings are figurative portraiture capturing the female form and making a statement about the beauty in all women. I draw my inspirations straight from fashion magazines, and in paint, create a new story beyond the fashion campaign that the model I’m painting is supposed to deliver.
Since the 1960′s, the Women’s Movement has changed in both messaging and defining the glass ceiling. Ironically, modeling is one of few careers where women out-earn men on a significant level. Yet, few reach the heights of Gisele, Naomi, Kate, or Amber… My desire is to give these “human hangers” their own platform on which the focus is them. Not the fashion house.
While I usually focus on depicting the face, and the infinite number of lines and expressions that can be revealed, most of my works tend to have pensive, thoughtful, even somber expressions. However, using acrylic paints and oil pastels, my work and technique is highly gestural, though calculated and planned. I like to balance each step like a choreographer, intensely watching for the next right move on the canvas. My brushstrokes are full of thick juicy paint that is deeply layered to combine color with depth.
Texture is a recurring theme in my paintings, and I would describe them as “visually tactile.” I hope that this emphasis suggests the value of awareness of touch for me as the artist, asking the viewer to become more fully engaged in experiencing my work.
I didn’t set out to be a painter or produce art in one particular style or another. Being a digital native, I’m never without my iPhone and iPad in hand, so capturing images from alternative fashion sources like Gilt, Net-a-Porter, and Poshmark are imperative to my growing body of work. The artists I most admire are Francesco Clemente, Lucien Freud, Anh Duong, Alice Neel, Francis Bacon, Cy Twombly, Mark Rothko, Amadeo Modigliani, and Jenny Saville.
As a person who loves to live with art, I am also a realist when it comes to personal preferences in interior design. Please explore my Gallery section, and if you see a particular work that speaks to you, just not in the color palette you see, please contact me for a quote on a custom piece to tailored to your specifications.
