10 Truths About Personal Style

Style has never been more personal than it is today, which makes me all the more passionate about helping others on their style journey. A private styling client who has found their own sense of style has a confidence and happiness that radiates from within.

Have a meeting with a potential business alliance? I go for what I call a “conservative with flair” look – pencil skirt and blouse, or sheath dress, statement shoes, and of course, a knockout handbag – #workwear. Brunch with the family? I’m all in for a flowy maxi dress, platform wedges, and a straw fedora – #bohoglam. GNO? I’m grabbing my white jeans, heels, and an off-the-shoulder top – #partytime.

Jenna LyonsThe likelihood of finding a single style icon that defines you? Kinda low. Most people are more of a mix, think: a little Sienna Miller with a dose of Kate Bosworth, plus a dash of Mary-Kate Olsen. To figure out who your main influencers are, start by doing a Pinterest search of “style icons” and save the images you are drawn to. You’ll start to see a collection of repeat people (your Style Squad) who you can look to for inspiration.

Best personal style tip? Choose a signature piece and wear it every day. Audrey Hepburn had her cropped pants and ballet flats. Jackie O. had her oversized sunglasses. All fashionable women own a signature item or two that becomes part of their style identity.

10 things I believe about style that I hope you find inspiring:

  1.  There is no one way to look stylish.
  2.  Style is a celebration of individuality.
  3.  Style is an art form that is enjoyed by you and your “audience.”
  4.  Style is a sum of many parts.
  5.  Fashion unites us, and style sets us apart.
  6.  There is beauty and style at every age.
  7.  Authentic style is manageable and makes you happy.
  8.  Your style can put a smile on someone else’s face.
  9.  Style evolves over time.
  10.  Style is a celebration of individuality.

After all…

But I have a higher purpose. Helping women discover that fashion has the power to transform, it’s not so much about who you are as it is about who you WANT to be.
